Specification Redundancy in Offset Printing and How to Use Them

One main advantage of offset printing as against digital printing is the ease and affordability of printing in very large quantities of as much as a few thousand pieces. With offset you get the best savings possible with the discounted rate for bulk orders. The limitation though is that you are required to print in larger quantities and would have to choose from among default sizes.

Printing in offset can be confusing with all the specifications for different print products being the same. You can use these variations to your advantage though to print the materials you need without the extra cost of customizing. When you want to customize your marketing materials though, you may have to spend a little more for projects.

Here are a few trivia that may be important to know when getting your prints ready.

1. Flyers And Brochures

Flyers are often thought of to be smaller than brochures and are intended to be handed out to passers-by. When you look at the brochure and flyers sizes though, you can have both pieces printed in the same small size of 5.5x8.5, with variations that that come in larger sizes of 8.5x11, 8.5x14, and even poster sizes of 11x17 and an extra large 11x25.375 inch size.

Both flyers and brochures can also be ordered to be in bi-folds, z-fold, or tri-fold. They also come in the same paper material of bright white 100lb gloss text, gloss cover, or matte book.

Although flyers are intended to be handed out to passers-by, they are also being used for direct-mail-marketing. Like the brochures, these large pieces can also hold a substantial amount of information and can be used for content heavy advertisement.

2. Posters

Posters are intended to be attached to walls leaving the back side out of sight for your customers. Often the smaller sized posters though can be given away to customers in the same way as flyers are handed out.

When you want to print your posters double-sided without customizing the project, the quickest way to do so is to have a change in paradigm. You can have an 11x17inch poster sized flyer printed instead. It can be had in the same material and specifications as your regular offset poster. In addition, you can print this in larger quantities without the hassle of customizing.

3. Stickers and Labels

Offset stickers and labels are small pieces with a biggest size of 11x17 inches. You also need to order them with a minimum quantity of 250 pieces or more for the plating and setup cost to be cost-effective. This may be good if you intend to give away your stickers and labels, but when you only need a few large pieces you can go around these limitations with digital printing.

An adhesive vinyl is a durable material and can withstand damage better than labels or stickers that used offset printing. In addition, you can choose to have one or two extra large pieces of as big as 52x100 inches. The only limitation of this print though is that it cannot be written on or printed on with an ordinary inkjet printer.
