Nail Care Tips - How to Do a Manicure

The beautiful woman about town doesn't just have a beautiful face her hands are beautiful too. But you don't have to spend a fortune having a manicure every month to achieve this, you can do it yourself at home. Here are some simple nail care tips that will not only keep your nails looking beautiful but save you a small fortune as well.

1. First of all wash and dry your hands.

2. Now take a nail file and use gentle strokes to file your nails. Avoid the corners of your nails as this can weaken them.

3. Now begin to shape your nails. The most popular shape to use is oval but choose the shape that most suits your hand and fingers.

4. Apply a cuticle softener to your cuticles.

5. Now put your hands in a bowl of warm water and soak for an additional few minutes.

6. After letting your hands soak gently push back the cuticles. This should not be painful. If you have any hangnails, carefully clip them short.

7. Take your favorite hand lotion and begin to massage the palm of your hand. Work your way over the rest of your hand and don't forget the webs of your fingers. This will help circulation which will improve the look of your skin and help prevent wrinkles.

8. Before you apply color to the nails, they must be cleaned and the easiest way to do this is with cotton buds. Dip the cotton buds into nail polish remover and then rub over the surface of the nail. Remove any creamy creamy residue. When none remains, your nails are ready for polishing.

9. Now its time to add some color. Pick up a small amount of polish on your brush and paint one stroke down the center of your nail. Your brush should hold just enough color to accomplish this. Stroke the sides of the nail and you are done. The nail should be completely colored in three strokes. Allow to set for a minute or so before applying the second coat.

10. Wait until polish is set (dry to the touch) and then apply the top coat. Don't skip this step as it not only adds life to your manicure, it will protect your nails as well.

There you have it, beautifully manicured hands. Do this at least once a month at home and save yourself a small fortune.
